This is my interpretation of the Inktober prompts using textile and fibre mediums. Inktober is an annual sketching challenge for artists using ink meduims. I decided to do a version this challenge using fibre to kickstart my studio with some daily sketchbook practice. My aim was to re-introduce some experimental and playful work into the studio after a few representational commissions. I needed to exercise and gear up my creative mind in a way that pure representational work doesn’t do, especially when working on a longer project with fewer opportunities to let go creatively. These are small pieces made to fit in a small A5 sketchbook. Some take as little as 20 minutes to make. I gave myself a limit of an hour to create one a day from start to finish.

If you’re interested in smaller fibre pieces I have a few smaller originals available here as framed artwork. You can also buy prints and products with my artwork here
This daily sketchbook practice has inspired me with new ideas for miniature work as well as forming the basis for some much bigger pieces. There will be a lot to consider on how to scale these visual effects in terms of how to use the materials over larger areas. Watch this space!
